Phonetic Alphabet

Time for a small rant...Please, please, please use the proper phonetic alphabet when giving your call sign or spelling information on the bands. It's sometimes very hard for me (and I'm sure others) to expect to hear "Alpha" for an "A" and instead hear "Ameritech" for an "A" or "Kilowatt" instead of "Kilo" for a "K". You SHOULD NOT invent your own phonetics!  The following is the ITU standard phonetic alphabet and is used by pilots, and trained communicators.  If you come from a public service (police, etc) background you learn another alphabet, but on the radio, the following phonetics can be picked out very easily even during some very difficult band conditions.  Please use them!

A Alpha
B Bravo
C Charlie
D Delta
E Echo
F Foxtrot
G Golf
H Hotel
I India
J Julliet
K Kilo
L Lima
M Mike
N November
O Oscar
P Papa
Q Quebec
R Romeo
S Sierra
T Tango
U Uniform
V Victor
W Whiskey
X X-Ray
Y Yankee
Z Zulu
